Hello friends and readers!
I updated my Goodreads account today after completing the eighth novel in The Expanse series, Tiamat’s Wrath, written by James S.E. Corey. I read Leviathan Wakes as a buddy read with a couple friends a few months ago. It was some good sci-fi that I didn’t expect to like, but ended up enjoying it to the extent that I binged the 4 seasons of the show, and then the next 7 books, almost non-stop.
Here’s a look at all the books I’ve completed so far, How are you doing on your goals for the year? Reading or otherwise? https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_in_books/2019/82682291
The result was hitting my January goal for the year, of 35 books, a few days ago, August 28th. This will be the first full year keeping a book/review blog, and the first time i’ve set any kind of reading goal. I was not sure if I’d hit it the goal, as I wasn’t even aware of Goodreads until the end of 2019. Also, reading is tough sometimes. With work and family taking up most of my life, reading can’t be planned and is done sometimes for just a couple minutes at a time.
Having “THIS” – OllieSpot – has really been a cool experience and process for me, as well as a huge accomplishment. Just to put my highlights into words: Being able to read some books before they were released, participating with Storytellers On Tour a handful of times, as well as WriteHive, for Book and Blog Tours have been highlights, not just for my book……obsession, but highlights for me personally. Ten years ago I owned nothing and could be found sleeping by a tree at a park at night, and panhandling for beer money throughout the day. Needless to say, I was hitting a low that I didn’t think would be possible to come back from. Maybe someday I’ll really write about the events in my life that make me appreciate what a miracle it is to have a family and job, and interests that I get the opportunity to enjoy.
One thing I had gone without for far too long was friends. Which leads me to what I am truly grateful for today: YOU, and those I’ve met and associated with this year just by talking about books. I really appreciate and want to thank you all for giving me the chance to joke and be myself, and to feel like I was included. A big giant shout out to you all.
For the remainder of 2020 I’m hoping to focus strictly on the book review requests I’ve been sent, and to go along with that, to read as many self and independent published books as I can fit into my time. I also need to up my reading goal. If you have any thoughts on what a good number to shoot for is, I’d love to hear them!
I will include a list of links for some of the self published books I’m currently reading, or have on deck below that I recommend checking out
